Morillon Mountains

Morillon Winter

Morillon Les Esserts is an attractive chalet style village set on a wooded plateau at 1100 meters. It perches on the edge of the Grand Massif, one of the largest linked ski areas in Europe.

The Grand massif boasts over 75 lifts and 265 kilometers of slopes spread across 5 resorts: Flaine, Morillon, Les Carroz, Sixt and Samoens. Due to its north and north-west facing slopes and its close proximity to Mont Blanc it has one of the best snow records of any resort in the French Alps allowing for skiing late into the season. The ski domain caters for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities with 5 green runs 53 blue, 51 red and 14 black as well as off piste areas to explore. There are also 3 excellent JAM snow parks.

Morillon Les Esserts is small friendly community, offering cozy restaurants, bars, shops and a small play area. There is an excellent Ski School with friendly English speaking instructors offering group or private lessons, a ski garden and an creche taking little ones from 6 months. For children over 3 years it offers a chance to experience skiing for the very first time in a secure enclosed area with ESF instructors (ski hire is discounted if staying in the apartment).

Nestled in the valley below is charming Morillon Village. It is connected to Les Esserts by a small cable car (a 5 minute journey). The adjacent medieval villages of Verchaix, Samoens and Sixt in the scenic Giffre valley offer markets, quaint restaurants and bars and a variety of shops including a large supermarket.

There are many other winter activities to experience in the area including cross-country skiing, snow shoe trekking, paragliding, hot air ballooning, ice skating, sledging, winter archery, dog sledding, ice climbing, ice diving or for those who are looking for a more peaceful holiday fabulous heritage or guided walks.

Non-skiers can obtain cable car passes allowing them to admire the panorama of the mountains or go to the altitude restaurants. There is also a free shuttle bus operating during cable car hours between Verchaix, Morillon, Samoans and Sixt Fer a Cheval. Timetables are at the bus stops, available in the chalet or tourist office. In addition there are weekly torchlight descents, concerts, wine and food tastings, and a variety of activities for children.
